Assam is a cultural and Geographical place. It is situated in the extreme northeast of India. Assam is divided into two parts -  Brahmaputra Valley and Barak Valley. Assam is surrounded by Bhutan and Arunachal Pradesh on the north, Nagaland and Manipur on the east, Meghalaya and Mizoram on the south, and Bangladesh, Tripura, and West Bengal on the west. A narrow strip of the sub- mountainous region of the Himalayas connects Assam to the Indian mainland. In Assam, there are 33 districts.

However, there are autonomous district councils that were formed under the provision of the 6th Schedule viz. BTR (Bodoland Territorial Region), Dima Hasao Autonomous District Council, Karbi Anglong Autonomous District Council and a few others are comprised of a number of administrative districts. Of them, BTR is the largest autonomous council with 4 (four) districts, Baksa, Chirang, Kokrajhar, and Udalguri.

If I say about the natural scenery green hills in almost every district in Assam with a blue river. Flora and Fauna make Assam naturally beautiful and especially orchid and one horn rhino is famous in natural beauty moreover green forest and rain forest are significant in the natural beauty of Assam.

Festival

Assam, being a traditionally diversified state, there are a lot of festivals that are celebrated in Assam.

  • Bihu is the main festival celebrated all over Assam with great enthusiasm. Bihu is a set of three prominent festivals - Bohag/Rongali Bihu, Kati/Kongali Bihu, Magh/Bhogali Bihu.

  • Durga Puja is another main festival celebrated in Assam. It is a religious festival of Bengali but Regardless of race or language celebrated all over Assam.

  • Bathow puja is a festival celebrated in Assam. It is a religious festival of Bodos.

  • Ali Ai Ligang, celebrated by Mising community of Assam is a spring festival associated with agriculture.

  • Me-Dam-Me-Phi, one of the main festivals of Assam is celebrated by Ahoms. At this festival, Ahoms worship their ancestors.

  • Bwisagu is again a festival of Bodos of Assam. It is a seasonal festival celebrated in the first week of the month of Bohag or Baisakh.


There are also some famous festivals organized by the government of Assam.
Kaziranga Elephant festival: a yearly elephant festival held in Kaziranga National Park of Assam for the conservation and protection of Asiatic elephants.

Dihing Patkai festival: another yearly festival held in the Tinsukia district of Assam.

Besides these, the people of Assam also celebrate Rash, Christmas Day, Eid, Diwali, Laxmi Puja, Kali Puja, and many more with immense eagerness.

  • Rang Ghar, Asia's oldest amphitheater is located in Assam.
  • Umananda is the smallest river island in the world.
  • IIT Guwahati which was in 87th world rank in 2014 in 'Best University under 50' in times Higher education ranking. It was the only Indian institute in that list under 100 rank.
  • Asia's 1st oil refinery was established in Digboi, Assam.
